The City of Hope's Department of Patient, Family and Community Education and Celtic Harpist Lisa Lynne have teamed up to bring Celtic Harps, harp teachers and professional performers to the City of Hope. This ongoing "Hands on Harps" series is designed to bring out the musician in everybody. Patients, staff and families are invited to see these world class harpists perform their music and participate in hands-on beginner workshops with a provided assortment of Celtic and lap harps. There is no musical experience necessary to participate in these fun musical events.

Whether you wish to enjoy creating relaxing harp music for yourself, wish to learn more about therapeutic music, or simply enjoy the concerts, you will be enchanted by these wonderful harp music events brought to you by the City of Hope's Department of Patient, Family and Community Education. This "Hands on Harps" program is made possible through a generous grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts.

Alfredo Rolando Ortiz
Internationally acclaimed composer, lecturer, author and recording artist, Dr. Ortiz has a multiculteural repertoire which covers folk, classical and popular music of many countries. Born in Cuba in 1946, he immigrated to Venezuela and began studying Paraguayan harp with Alberto Romero. In 1964 he began medical studies in Columbia, and supported himself with his harp music until graduation, but since 1978 he has dedicated his life only to music. He is well known around the world as the premier harpist of South American music, and has recorded over 30 albums in his career. Alfredo will mesmerize you with his outstanding performance and ability to teach and inspire.

Amy Lynn Frost MBA and MA Spiritual Psychology
Inspirational workshop and hands-on-harps with Lisa Lynne "Using Humor to Deal with What Life Throws You! -- Tapping into Your Humorous Self" You will be introduced to and actually use skills which will assist you in making humor a normal part of your life. We all have the ability to laugh and be funny in our own way. The true test is do I dare to be my funny Self? This workshop will help you do just that AND we will have a good time doing it. Bobbie Jo Curley - Concert and Workshop
Bobbie Jo Curley has made music her life since the young age of 5. She plays piano, Celtic harp, guitar, various ethnic flutes and percussion; she is also a singer/songwriter. Teaching and performing throughout L.A. for 20 years, Bobbie Jo's music speaks of old and new "blues and Celtic" she is famous amongst her harpist peers for being the fastest lever flipper we have ever seen. Bonnie Mohr
Bonnie is our "in house" harp teacher who will often be leading City of Hope events in learning the harp. As a performer, she has delighted audienes throughout the U.S. Europe and Japan with her beautiful voice and harp. She is a local teacher who is a member of the Music teachers Association, and serves on the board of directors of the Los Angeles Harp ensemble.

Celtic Folk Music Trio - Banshee in the Kitchen
This wonderful all female trio is comprised of Hammer Dulcimer, violin, guitar and flute. They take traditional Celtic tunes, find the sweet spot between the old and the new, then stirs it all up with playfulness and an exquisite sense of musicality. Chad Watson & Pam Loe
Two Hall of Famers...Pam is in the California Country Music Hall of Fame and Chad is in the Idaho Cowboy Entertainers Hall of Fame. Combining old favorites and originals from their various CDs, this charismatic married couple pulls from "Jones to Stones" for their award-winning performances! Between the two of them you'll hear great stories, guitars, bass, piano, trombone, mandolin and harmonies that come from working together almost 20 years.

Checo Alonso
Checo Alonso is one of the nations premier Mexican folk harpists. He is a longtime member of Mariachi Los Camperos, and backs up numerous major artists including Linda Rondstadt. He has a degree in Ethnomusicology, and will present a multicultural demonstration of several Latin American harp traditions.

Christina Tourin
Christina is an international recording and touring artist. A second-generation harpist, she began playing harp at the age of four. She received Music and Education degrees from the University of Vermont, and also studied harp at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and at McGill University in Montreal.
She is an active workshop organizer, and has been instrumental in the revival of the Folk Harp since early 1970's. Christina is the founder and director of the International Harp Therapy Program established in 1995 and currently operating in San Diego, California. She is a gifted performer and teacher and an expert in the field of music for hospitals and hospices. Tina will perform her outstanding music, and lead a workshop in beginning harp.

Cynthia Artish
Cynthia Artish began studying music at age eight. A classical trained violinist, her musical adventures include performing for orchestra; ensemble; solo work, recording and composing. Noted for her unique style, drawing on classical, jazz and Celtic crossover; she plays both Celtic and pedal harp. She is a popular performer as well as teacher.

Dana Delong and Lisa Lynne - Inspirational workshop and Music
Please join us for an evening of music, relaxation, breath and inspiration!Dana Delong is a world class flutist and the co-founder of Clarity Breathwork, an amazing technique to relax your body and empower your mind. Deborah Friou & Julia Lane - A Celtic Harp Duo
These two outstanding Celtic Harpists from Maine has delighted audiences with the solos and duets of traditional Celtic, Renaissance and original music. This concert will be a winter celebration of the solstice with music from the rich Yuletide tradition of the British Isles, the celebration of Chanukah, or original music for the season.

Diana Stork & Portia Diwa
Diana Stork is a well known and well loved Celtic Harp performer and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She plays and composes on a variety of modern lever and ethnic harps. Her large repertoire consists of European Renaissance and Medieval music, Celtic and other music from the British Isles, Classical, Latin, and popular tunes. She is also known for her original compositions for the harp, She is featured on the recordings Sacred Light and Harpistry, a best selling collection of harp music that she co-produced on Polygram records. She has given numerous lecture-demonstrations in schools and for organizations. and has written three gradated books for harpists. Diana will be joined by Portia Diwa who has played harp for 14 years. She is a member of three harp ensembles and has performed extensively in Northern California. Don't miss their magical performance and wonderful spirits. After their concert they will show beginners the basics of Celtic Harp playing on provided Celtic and lap harps.

Draoicht - Celtic Duo from Ireland - Concert
Draoícht is Irish for "magical, spellbinding." One of the finest traditional Celtic music duos out of Ireland, this harp and flute twosome will indubitably enchant you. Michael Rooney on harp and June McCormack on flute play with a beauty & passion that will transport you right to the Emerald Isle.

Grainne Hambly
All-Ireland Harp Champion Grainne Hambly is the Principal Harper of the Belfast harp orchestra. She comes from Country Mayo in the west of Ireland and is a graduate of Queen's University Belfast. She tours extensively and is a qualified teacher of traditional Irish music in great demand in Ireland and abroad. She is truly a virtuoso playing jigs, reels, hornpipes waltzes and slow airs.

Lisa Lynne
Lisa Lynne, the founder of "Harps for Hearts" has joined forces with City of Hope to bring harps and harp music to the Supportive Care Program. She has organized the performers and provides her own collection of harps for the use of this program. Lisa is a well-known performer in her own right. A self taught musician who began playing her harp on Venice Beach, she built her own production company and her recent album releases on the Windham Hill and New Earth record labels have all held top positions on the Billboard New Age music charts, and instrumental radio airplay charts. She will perform her serene and heartwarming compositions, and assist beginning harp players with free style improvisation. She will show how effortless it can be to make beautiful music on the harp.

Lisa Lynne & Molly Pasutti
Lisa Lynne is a nationally recognized Celtic Harpist and recording artist as well as the Musician-in-residence at City of Hope. Molly Pasutti is a vocalist of rare talent with numerous credits in the television and movie industry. Together they will perform some original music and well-loved songs for the heart.

Louise Trotter
Louise Trotter is a nationally recognized performer, workshop leader and harp conference panelist around the world. A native of Port Arthur, Texas, her spirit of fun and sharing brings out the creative side of everyone at her workshops. Her nine recordings are a variety of classical, pop, American folk, country western, Christmas, sacred hymns, and jazz. True to her Texas heritage, she enjoys including country western songs in her performing and writing. This will be a delightful southern style event you will not want to miss!

Maire Ni Chathasaigh and Chris Newman
This well loved harp and guitar duo from Ireland and England are among the world's greatest virtuoso Celtic music performers. They play a stirring blend of Irish, Scottish, swing jazz, bluegrass and baroque. Last year Maire was presented with the National Traditional Music Award for "Musician of the Year" for the pioneering force of her music, and the positive influence of her music on the young generation of harpers. Chris Newman is one of Britain's leading acoustic guitarists. He has performed with Stephane Grappelli, The boys of the Lough, and Christy O'Leary. Patrick Ball
Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating storyteller in the Celtic tradition. He has recorded nine instrumental and three spoken word albums, which have sold well over one-half million copies internationally and won national awards in both the music and spoken word categories. Shawna Selline has been performing and teaching Celtic harp for more than 20 years. Drawn as so many are, to the serene and magical qualities of the instrument, Shawna has composed music for solo harp as well as chamber ensembles. Her compositions are internationally known and performed regularly while her most recent CD "Meditation" accompanies Yoga classes and other healing arts throughout Los Angeles.

Stephanie Bennett
Stephanie is considered on of the countrys top harpists by the Hollywood Reporter. She is a prize winning performer of Jazz and Pop Harp. She has toured the world performing for dignitaries, movie stars, has numerous television and movie credits, and is on the L.A. Board of directors of Women In Music. She is also an energetic and fun teacher who has many harp students in the L.A. area.

Sue Raimond
Sue Raimond is considered to be among the world experts in the field of vibroacoustics and cytocymatics. She is a talented harper and concert violinist as well as a published author, composer and director with more than 12 CDS, books and films to her credit. She is currently pioneering a new era by founding PET PAUSE: She works directly with animals both domestics and exotics at Zoo's and animal shelters. She literally "soothes the savage beasts." She is also an Emergency Medical technician and firefighter in San Diego. You don't want to miss meeting this incredible woman.

Sunita Staneslow
Sunita lives in Israel. Her music flows from her heart to her harp, expressing herself to her audience with passion and grace. Classically trained and an master of her instrument she has immersed herself in the worlds of Jewish and Celtic music, performing and recording with some of the great musicians of Europe, Israel, and the United States. Her recordings are popular around the world, and her books of music for harp have become standards with both students and professional harpists.

Sylvia Woods
Sylvia Woods has single-handedly pioneered the resurgence of Celtic Harps. She is a harpist of 30 years with numerous credits who created and owns the Sylvia Woods Harp Center in Glendale, California. She has had tremendous success in her retail harp store, selling harps, writing books, and following her dream which has been to help get people all over the world playing and enjoying beautiful harp music.

Tami Briggs

William Jackson
Touring the US from Scotland, Internationally known composer, harpist and multi-instrumentalist. William Jackson has been at the forefront of Scottish music for many years. In 1976 he was a founding member of the top Scottish band Ossain, described by the Boston Globe as "a gem in the same League as Ireland's Cheiftains". On stage William Joyfully shares personal anecdotes, stories and old Celtic tales with a dry wit. His incredible music is truly transporting.
